Glasgow’s Halloween Happenings 2017

You may already be seeing Christmas cards and decorations in your local shops, but first thing’s first – Halloween. Perhaps only a mildly scarier prospect than the impending festivities.

Glasgow rarely fails to disappoint with its vast and varied array of ways to celebrate the spookiest night of the year no matter what your interests. So, we’ve compiled a list of the best fright night spooktaculars for you and your monster mates – sorry, we went there.

Fright Movie Night

Drive in movies need not be the reserve of nostalgic 80s movies or sophisticated film festivals. This year, the Riverside Museum is showing Ghostbusters and Scream on the big screen on 29th October. All proceeds go to charity.

Freaky Fortune Telling Ghost Tour

Halloween would never be complete without a ghost tour and Tenement House’s “Spirit of the Tenements” is not to be missed. Get your fright on with blood curdling tales of Victorian Glasgow complete with a fortune teller as you navigate the attraction’s haunted halls after dark.

Spooky crafts for Little Monsters

Kids are never too young for some Halloween fun. Bring your little monsters along to the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre over Halloween weekend for lots of frightfully fun activities from puppet making to entertainment – costumes always encouraged.

KelvinGrave!

This year Glasgow’s iconic Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery plays host to a special screening of the 1978 classic horror movie Halloween. On the 28th October the screening will be followed by a John Carpenter inspired DJ set and fully licensed bar and party till 1AM.

Pretty Scary Pirate Party

The Tall Ship at Glasgow’s Riverside will be transformed into a spooky pirate ship full of lost treasure for kids to find over Halloween weekend. This very affordable day out includes treats for every child and spooky face painting on offer – perfect for all the family.

Murder Mystery Dining Delight

If you’re a bit of scaredy cat but love your grub, this Halloween excursion might just be the ticket. On 26th October Loks Bar and Kitchen in the South Side will host a Murder Mystery Night just in time to kick off the weekend’s spooky happenings. Tickets are available now and you’d be dead silly to miss it.

Psycho Live

Music lovers who enjoy their Halloween Spotify playlist all year round – listen up. The RSNO in association with the Edinburgh Film Festival are performing the film score to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic horror Psycho live. Bernard Herrmann’s musical masterpiece will be accompanied by a big screen showing of the movie on 26th October.

HorrorCon

Horror enthusiasts, you know who you are. You have a wardrobe just for your Halloween costumes and the Monster Mash is your ringtone. Make your way to the Classic Grand’s Halloween Festival on 4th and 5th November. Taking place over two floors, expect the unexpected… and artwork, books, comics, entertainment, food and film screenings.

Halloween Dog Disco

Yes, it’s a thing, you aren’t barking mad. The 13th Note are holding a Halloween Dog Disco on 29th October. Get your pooch looking the part with its very own dogstume and bring them along to the Merchant City to get bobbing for bones. Entry is free but donations to local dog charities will be very welcome.

Hillhead Horror Show

Hillhead Bookclub always put on a total scream when it comes to Halloween. We’re sure this year will be no exception. All weekend expect all sorts of scary shenanigans and deadly disco for all you ghouls and guys. A fangtastic night out.
