Glasgow’s best for student accommodation investment

For high yields student accommodation is a reliable choice for investors and with university cities spread across Scotland it is good know where the best returns can be found.

Investing in student property in Glasgow is recommended by research from both Zoopla and Savills.

Savills named Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen as the top opportunities in Scotland in its Spotlight on UK Student Housing report. However recent turbulence in the oil industry is negatively effecting property prices in Aberdeen meaning investors might be advised to wait.

Zoopla’s research showed that yields from student accommodation are higher in Scotland than in the UK as a whole. Furthermore it shows that Glasgow offers the best yield performance, with Edinburgh (which for the purpose of the report included St Andrews in Fife) close behind and Stirling in third place within Scotland.

In late 2014 concerns were raised that a split from the UK could affect student fees and have a knock on demand in Scotland however there has been no change and investments are unaffected. Meanwhile Scottish institutions continue to attract high numbers of overseas students who help to fuel demand in the rental market.
